Monthly Market Overview: December 2018

On the last trading session of December 2018 the General Index reached 66,77 points, representing a relative decrease of 0,07% from the previous month.

The value of shares traded exhibited a decrease of 0,3% compared to the previous month. It is worth mentioning however, that the highest level that the General Index reached for the month was 67,22 points. The other Market Indices reached the following levels: Main Market reached 44,78, Alternative Market 872,39, Investment Companies 1.070,74 points.

On a sectoral level, the Hotels Index reached 720,36 points. The FTSE/CySE20 reached 40,07 points and finally the FTSE Med reached 3.964,84 points. The market capitalisation of shares (shares) reached €1,93 billion. According to this month’s results, the Main Market accounted for 17,89% of the total market capitalisation, the Alternative Market 13,42%, the Surveillance Market 0,12% and the Bond Market 68,58%. Moreover, the total market capitalisation including the Bond Market reached €6,14 billion compared to €6,67 billion the previous month, registering a decrease of 7,84%.

The total value of transactions during the month in review reached €2,38 million, with an average of €0,13 million per trading session. The Financials sector contributed 65,47% to the total value traded which was the highest among all other sectors. Investors primarily focused their interest on the shares of 'Hellenic Bank Public Company Ltd' and also on shares of 'Bank of Cyprus Holdings Plc' with 39,00% and 34,80% of the total value respectively.
