Speaking after a meeting with a delegation from DISY, headed by leader Averof Neophytou, Lakkotrypis said that he and the party agreed that stability is of the essence in the tourism industry.
“It is very important to move forward, without wavering, on the path that we have created as regards (tourist) arrivals and revenue from tourism and the reforms in the tourism industry, which are so important for the economy of our country,” Lakkotrypis said.
He pointed out that “all indications are that this year will be the best year ever, both in terms of tourist arrivals and revenue” and described as the increase foreseen for winter months as “very important”.
Lakkotrypis said that Cyprus must overcome the obstacle of seasonality, noting that “a large part of the reduction in unemployment seen in recent months was due to the performance of the tourism industry”.
DISY deputy head Lefteris Christoforou said that the significant growth in the tourism sector, among others, is owed to the leadership and hard work of the government, noting that “nothing is random”.
“The fact that Cyprus has managed to achieve record-high revenues and arrivals in Cyprus, just three years after disaster struck, is proof of the right course and the stable prospects of our country,” he said.
