After two-year break Ayia Napa to host Sculpture Symposium

After a two-year break, Ayia Napa municipality is again set to host an international Sculpture Symposium, the eighth in its series, it announced on Monday.

In the last two years, due to the financial crisis and the pandemic, symposia at the Ayia Napa Sculpture Park were cancelled, nonetheless, projects to upgrade the space, such as the installation of seats and creation of an artificial lake near the Argo bridge, were completed.

From October 30 to November 30 the 8th International Sculpture Symposium 2022 will be held once more, with the aim to enrich the park with new sculptures and create new cultural spaces, Mayor Christos Zannettou, told Cyprus News Agency.

He added that the purpose of the event is the exchange of artistic knowledge between artists of different cultures and acquainting the thousands of visitors to Ayia Napa with the art.

Zannettou said that the two annual symposia would be consolidated into one, and small cultural events would be organised, provided finances and the situation in Ukraine allowed for this.

He sounded a note of caution, saying that “Ayia Napa is 60% dependent on Russian tourism and everyone must be careful, so that we do not find ourselves in unpredictable and unpleasant situations.”

Those interested in contributing to the event are encouraged to contact the Cultural Department of the municipality (mariacultural@agianapa.org.cy, Tel: +357 23816307) to learn about terms and conditions for participation.
