Agriculture Minister visits Latvia to strengthen relations

Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Nicos Kouyialis has paid a two-day official visit to Latvia with an aim to strengthen relations between Cyprus and Latvia, in view of the latter’s EU Presidency during the first half of 2015.

During his visit, at the invitation of his Latvian counterpart, Kouyialis held meetings with the Latvian Ministers of Agriculture and Environment, and was briefed on the Latvian Presidency’s priorities.

He also had the opportunity to express the positions of Cyprus concerning the Common Agricultural Policy and the Policy on the Environment and Climate. 


Furthermore, the need for close cooperation in order to activate and utilise EU crisis funds, in order for the member states to receive immediate support, was pointed out. 


During the meetings, the two ministers examined possible cooperation between the two countries, especially in the sectors of agriculture and fisheries, including the exchange of good practices and expertise. 


Kouyialis also met with Latvian business groups to discuss investment opportunities in Cyprus.
