Tourist arrivals in August rose 5.1% to 392,272 compared to a year before mainly on a strong increase in the number of tourists from the UK which more than offset the drop of Russians visitors, the statistical service said.
In the first eight months of the year, total arrivals rose an annual 6.2% to 1.842.700, Cystat said in a statement on its website today.
Favoured by a strong pound, the number of British tourists rose, 16% in August to 156,701 compared to a year before, while those from Germany rose 68% to 13,997, the statement said. The number of tourists from Israel rose 27% to 16,802.
The number of tourists from Russia, Cyprus’ second largest source of incoming tourism after the UK, fell 19% to 89,827, Cystat said.
