Aviation hits transport, land and sea up in 2014

The value of goods in the transport and storage sector recorded a decrease of 1.4% in 2014 according to the annual Turnover Value Index published by the Statistical Service Cystat, with land transport and water transport enjoying an increase of 6.8% and 13.3%, respectively, while air transport recording a record annual fall of 25,6%.

Warehousing and support activities for transportation decrease by 2.1% and postal and courier activities decreased by 0.8%.

For the last quarter of October-December 2014, the transport and storage sector recorded a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%.

Land transport and water transport recorded an increase of 6.9% and 9.0%, respectively, while air transport and postal and courier activities recorded a decrease of 23.6% and 7.1%, respectively. The index of warehousing and support activities for transportation remained unchanged.

National road transport decreased by 17.1% in July-September 2014 compared to the corresponding period of 2013. International road transport decreased by 31.5% in July-September 2014, compared to the corresponding period of 2013.
