Cabinet approves new round of net metering programme

Following the net metering programme introduced by the government in 2013, the Cabinet approves the project ‘Solar Energy for All’ for the promotion of photovoltaic systems installations.

According to the project, licenses will be given for the installation of 15MW Net Metering in 4,500 homes and 450 licences will be given to low-income and other vulnerable groups of which 50% will be state funded. Local authorities are also invited to apply.

The project will also licence self-production of 5MW photovoltaic output and a further 5MW for commercial photovoltaic systems.

The net-metering programme, a policy aimed at generating savings from electricity consumption, started last year and invited 5,000 applications for net-metering systems to be installed in homes, 2,000 of which relate to low-income household installations which were 50% funded by the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) fund.
