The Central Bank of Cyprus said that the size of its balance sheet grew by €505.5m in April 2018 to €16.3bn compared to the month before, mainly on increased claims to other euro area national banks.
Intra-Eurosystem claims rose to last month to almost €9bn from €8.3bn in March, the central bank said in a statement on its website on Wednesday. This increase in assets was mainly offset by an increase in liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations to €11.3bn from €10.8bn respectively.
By the end of April, the funds deposited by the central government at the central bank fell to €852.9m from €786.5m, it said.
Other claims on euro area credit institutions denominated in euro, which includes the emergency liquidity extended to commercial banks, fell last month to €7,000 from €393,000 in March, the central bank said.
