The value of transactions with the use of plastic money rose 3% to over €2.3bn year-on-year in 2015 after rising an annual 12% to €244.7m in December, JCC Payment Systems Ltd said.
The use of debit or credit cards by tourists visiting in Cyprus and Cypriots travelling abroad rose 8% and 5% respectively last year compared to the year before, to €683.8m and €1.2bn respectively, JCC, a joint venture of Cypriot banks, said in an emailed statement on Friday. In December, the value of purchases by tourists with the use of plastic money and Cypriots abroad rose 15% and 17% to €37.8m and €118.1m respectively.
The value of purchases by holders of Cypriot cards in Cyprus’s Turkish-held part and Turkey was €6.8m and €4.9m respectively last year, according to JCC. In December alone, respective figures were €706,441 and €239,134.
