CSE market reaches €4 billion

Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) wrapped up 2023 on a high note, with listed securities exceeding €4 billion, according to the CSE’s figures published for December.

The General Index reached 136,01 points, representing a relative increase of 4,75 per cent from the previous month. The value of shares traded exhibited an increase of 60,22 per cent compared to the previous month. The highest level attained for the month by the General Index was 137.00 points. Meanwhile, other Market Indices also achieved notable levels, with the Main Market reaching 103.52 points, the Alternative Market hitting 1,184.95 points, and Investment Companies reaching 1,426.04 points. On a sectoral level, the Hotels Index reached 885,58 points. The FTSE/CySE20 reached 82,57 points. The market capitalisation of shares reached € 3,81 billion.

According to this month’s results, the Main Market accounted for 69,42 per cent of the total market capitalisation, the Alternative Market 23,31 per cent, the Surveillance Market 1,36 per cent and the Bond Market 5,91 per cent. Moreover, the total market capitalisation including the Bond Market reached € 4,05 billion compared to € 3,98 billion the previous month, registering an increase of 1,79 per cent. The total value of transactions during the month in review reached €8,86 million, with an average of €0,47 million per trading session.

The Financials sector contributed 74,95 per cent to the total value traded which was the highest among all other sectors. Investors primarily focused their interest on the shares of the Bank οf Cyprus Holdings Plc and also on shares of Demetra Holdings Plc with 43,96 per cent and 30,04 per cent of the total value respectively.

The top ten companies on the CSE at the close of 2023, the Bank of Cyprus led with €1.49 billion, followed by Hellenic Bank at €920.55 million, Vassiliko Cement Works at €230.2 million, Logicom Public Ltd at €223.72 million, and Demetra Holdings at €144 million. The remaining companies in the top ten included Salamis Tours at €127.85 million, Petrolina Holdings at €98 million, Cyprus Cement Company at €95.63 million, KEO at €68.75 million, and Atlantic Insurance Ltd at €66.98 million.

The collective market value of these top ten companies amounted to €3.47 billion.
