CTO seeking Austrian tourism boost

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) has clinched a deal with Austrian tour operator Seniorenreisen in a move that could see up to 14,000 tourists arrive from Austria.

According to a media release from the CTO, the agreement covers the period 2017-2018.  Seniorenreisen, which is a subsidiary company of one of the biggest associations in Austria for retired citizens and currently has around 400,000 members.

With this agreement “an additional contribution to the huge and common effort to increase the flow of tourists to Cyprus is made.” CTO said in the release.

In 2015, there was a large influx of tourists by many of the targeted markets, namely 19.5% from the UK, 30% from Germany, 43% from Israel, 38% from Greece, 25% from France, 32% from the Netherlands, 35% from Austria, 49% from Poland and 23% from the Ukraine.

CTO Chairman Angelos Loizou in recent statements said that the organisation “aims to increase tourist arrivals to 2.9 million in 2016”.

He also said that CTO has prepared its own business plan for the period 2016 to mid-2017.
