Cyprus airports see 3.6% rise in passenger traffic in H1 2019

Cyprus airports saw a 3.6% increase in passenger traffic in the first six months to June 2019 compared to the same period last year, according to data from operator Hermes Airports.

From January to June combined passenger traffic at Larnaca and Paphos airport amounted to 4.68 million from 4.52 million in the same period last year.

The rise is mainly attributable to the passenger flow at Paphos airport where passengers increased 8.5% in the first six months to 1.31 million from 1.20 million.

At Larnaca Airport the passenger growth was a lower 1.9% with traffic reaching 3.37 million from 3.31 million in January-June 2018.

Last year the number of passengers passing through the two airports touched a record 10.93 million, an increase of 6.7% on 2017.

Positive passenger numbers are buoyed by a surge in Cypriots travelling abroad despite a small dip in tourist arrivals to the island.
