Cyprus Airways and Aegean to collaborate on flights — passengers expected to benefit

Cyprus Airways and Aegean Airlines this week announced their plan to work together on codeshare flights, which will start on June 20, with the aim of improving connectivity and travel options for passengers travelling to and from Cyprus.

At a press conference in Larnaca, Aegean and Cyprus Airways said that this agreement will enable them to further expand their international network and offer seamless connectivity for their customers to and from Europe and beyond. In addition, according to the two companies, this collaboration will also allow the two carriers to provide their passengers with the opportunity to benefit from increased connectivity when travelling to and from Cyprus, to an expanded network of Greek and European destinations.

Paul Sies, CEO of Cyprus Airways, called the signing of the agreement a “historic moment”, adding that it “marks yet another milestone for the new Cyprus Airways”. “We are pleased to announce today the codeshare agreement with our neighbouring Star Alliance member carrier Aegean, with whom we share a strong market reputation and commitment to customers,” Sies said. He added that both Cyprus Airways and Aegean have common elements, such as the quality of services and customer satisfaction, “which makes us ideal partners”. “This is an important day for us as we lay the foundations to further strengthen our partnership with airlines that share common values,” the Cyprus Airways CEO explained.

At the same time, he noted that “we continue on our journey to expand our network, in order to offer the Cypriot public new travel opportunities to Europe and beyond, while making it easier for travellers from all over the world to visit Cyprus”. “Together, both air carriers will provide the best and highest quality services to the people flying to and from Cyprus,” he added, while noting that the company’s new A-220 aircraft will start flying in July of this year.

For his part, Roland Jaggi, Commercial Director of Aegean, expressed satisfaction “with this particular cooperation for codeshare flights, as it will further expand our network and offer our customers even more travel benefits and improved connectivity”. “We look forward to working with the new Cyprus Airways and providing passengers of both airlines with services to an enhanced network of destinations,” he stated. “Aegean has been in Cyprus for 21 years, and since 2002, when it made its first flight from Larnaca airport, it has carried a total of 10.7 million passengers,” he added. Moreover, he also noted that “the company is constantly investing in Cyprus and in strategic partnerships, which upgrade its services and allow it to respond to the growing needs of its passengers”.

According to a statement from the two companies, “starting on June 20, this new commercial partnership will enhance both leisure and business travel between Greece and Cyprus, while offering customers of the two airlines improved routes and seamless connectivity between two countries and many other international destinations”. “Through this cooperation, Aegean will offer Cyprus Airways flights to Paris, Rome, Milan, Beirut, Cairo, and Yerevan, as well as all the Greek destinations it serves through a common code, while the Cypriot carrier will henceforth offer through common code for all Aegean domestic network flights and the company’s flights to and from Madrid and Barcelona,” the announcement added.

“In this way, the options available are increased and the booking process becomes easier for the passengers of the two companies, while maintaining a single baggage policy, as well as other services including check-in,” the announcement concluded.
