Cyprus and Greece conclude maritime cooperation project

Cyprus and Greece concluded a project on cross-border cooperation for Maritime Spatial Planning development, according to a relevant announcement.

The project has been co-financed by the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme ‘Greece-Cyprus 2007-2013’ and by national funds.

During the project, data and information was collected or enriched regarding human activity at sea or in the maritime environment.

Moreover, the existing institutional framework was studied and a pilot Maritime Spatial Planning was developed in selected areas. A strategic environmental study was also developed.

Cyprus’ Department of Merchant Shipping was leading the project, which was conducted in cooperation with other partners, including the Department of Lands and Surveys of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology, the Oceanography Centre of the University of Cyprus, the Ministry of Shipping, Maritime Affairs and the Aegean of Greece and the University of the Aegean.
