Cyprus the only EU state with heavy trucks registration growth

Cyprus was the only EU member state to post growth last month in the registration of heavy trucks, according to figures provided by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

Specifically, there were 96 registrations of heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) of 16t and over last month, compared to only three in June 2019.

In addition, 106 such registrations were recorded between January and June 2020 compared to 16 the same period last year.

By contrast, demand for these heavy commercial vehicles within the EU was severely hit (-55.6%) with Estonia and Latvia recording percentage losses of more than 80%.

The four major EU markets also posted negative results, especially Germany (-57.4%), Spain (-55.7%) and Italy (-51.8%).

At the same time, only one in 238 citizens in Cyprus buys a brand new car, compared to Luxembourg’s one in 28, Belgium’s one in 52 and Germany’s one in 68, according to ACEA.
