Retail sales volumes jumped by 4% year on in year August 2015, according to preliminary figures from the Statistical Service Cystat, following a 4.7% leap in July.
The category of electrical goods and furniture showed the biggest leap, rising by 19.9% year on year, while the category of computer, books and other equipment rose by 5.4%.
For the first eight months as a whole retail sales volumes are estimated to have risen by 2.9%.
Deflationary pressures mean that the retail sales value index rose by just 1.5% in August and fell by 1.1% year on year in the January-August period.
