Cyprus' shipping industry weathers financial crisis

The Cypriot shipping industry has managed to weather the global and Cyprus financial crises, demonstrating remarkable resilience, Transport Minister Marios Demetriades has said.

The sector is looking to the future with confidence, Demetriades added, while addressing the Cyprus Union of Shipowners general meeting recently held in Athens.

According to an official announcement, the Minister thanked the Union for trusting, supporting and promoting the Cyprus flag and Cyprus shipping, since its establishment.

Shipping is an important chapter for Cyprus, Demetriades went on, noting that it constitutes an important pillar for the country`s development, by attracting foreign investment.

The Minister assured finally those present that the Cypriot government will continue to support Cypriot shipping and ship-owners.
