DEFA seeks advice on how to introduce LNG to Cyprus

Cyprus’ state-owned Natural Gas Public Company (DEFA) announced a tender for the provision of consultancy services for the supply of liquefied natural gas.

This comes seven months after it failed to agree terms with bidders willing to engage in a short-term contract.

The tender documents can be obtained electronically, free of charge, at the website www.eprocurement.gov.cy DEFA said in a statement on its website on Friday.

The deadline for interested parties expires on October 31, 2016 at 14:00 local time, DEFA said.

The decision not to go ahead with the so call interim solution, which would supply Cyprus with natural gas before it begins producing its own natural gas, came a day after reports that the government had decided to go directly for a permanent solution — natural gas from the Aphrodite field, Cyprus’ so far sole reserve in its offshore territory. Production is expected to start in 2020.

DEFA was not immediately available for comment.
