“The tender concerns the supply, installation, maintenance and operation of an advanced and holistic e-government system in Cypriot public education,” he explained.

The project has a budget of €25,335,000 plus VAT, meaning it is an investment of €27.8 million, he said. The deadline for the tender is December 18, and the project will be completed by 2023.

“The aim is to have handy tools in everyday life with which parents, students, teachers, school administrations and any other interested party will have access to all the services of the operation of the schools via the internet.”

Under the new system, all information on educational issues will immediately available, applications can be submitted electronically, and access will be possible via computers, tablets and smart phones.

Students will have electronic access to the school curriculum, their grades, the programme for exams, details regarding excursions and visits, disciplinary issues and procedures and application forms.

Parents will be able to electronically register and transfer their children, conduct financial transactions with the school, and handle all kinds of applications, including issues of financial support. They will also have immediate and complete online information regarding test results and exams.

Teachers are going to have online access to services such as interactive grading and real-time student attendance. They will be able to apply for permits electronically and handle issues of absence, placement, travelling and complaints.

Via this system they will be able to report problems to the ministry and submit requests.

“The ministry introduces the electronic administration of the school units. This way we will have immediate and effective monitoring of the school infrastructure. It will handle staff attendance electronically,” Prodromou added.

“It will manage equipment directly and efficiently. It will receive and handle requests from teachers in electronic form, as well as requests to the district education offices.”

In addition, statistics will enable to analyse trends and learning outcomes and even demographics.

The project, entitled “Support Services System”, is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union.
