Egypt to Cyprus travel increases in 2016

Approximately 2,000 more tourists from Egypt visited Cyprus in 2016 compared to 2015, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) said recently.

In 2016, 8,733 tourists from Egypt visited Cyprus compared to 6,450 in 2015, according to Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO).

Currently a Cypriot delegation – comprising tourism and shipping professionals – is visiting Egypt as part of a campaign to promote cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean and increase air connectivity between the two countries.

In statements to CNA, CTO Tourism Officer Christos Moustras noted an upward trend in tourism from Egypt to Cyprus over the last few years.

Referring to air connectivity between the two countries, he said that right now EgyptAir connects Cairo and Larnaca with sixscheduled flights per week throughout the year and daily flights in the summer.

According to flight data, EgyptAir operated a total of 325 flights to Larnaca International Airport in 2016, having offered a total of 26,946 airline seats. Flights were on average 60% full.

Moustras said that based on the flight data, good prospects exist for further increasing tourist flows from Egypt to Cyprus.
