Energy Minister holds talks with big energy firms in London

The Minister for Energy Yiorgos Lakkotrypis has held meetings in London with international energy firms that are involved in gas production at the Republic of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, according to recent press reports.

Lakkotrypis has been in the UK capital since the beginning of the week to lead the Cypriot delegation at this year’s World Travel Market, under his capacity as Minister for Tourism.

Soon after the completion of his meetings with tourism authorities, tour operators and airlines on Tuesday afternoon, the Minister had the first meeting with senior executives of one of these energy giants. This was followed with two more meetings on Wednesday morning.

Lakkotrypis discussed specific issues relating to the developments over the country’s EEZ, as well as the prospect and the exploitation of the gas fields in the near future.

The Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism will leave London on Thursday for Brussels, where he will represent Cyprus at the EU Trade Ministers’ council.
