Energy symposium to discuss strategy

A wide range of issues relating to the energy sector, and the role of Cyprus within it, will be the focus of the 3rd Cyprus Energy Symposium, which will take place on March 27-28 in Nicosia.

The Symposium, entitled Cyprus’s contribution to the new European energy strategy' and organised by the Institute of Energy for South-East Europe (IENE) in co-operation with Cyprus-based Financial Media Way, will cover issues such as research and exploitation of hydrocarbons, the oil, natural gas and electricity markets, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. Held under the auspices of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the event will be addressed by the President Nicos Anastasiades and the leaders of the major political parties, as well as 25 speakers from Cyprus, Greece and Israel.

“We believe that energy will be a deciding factor in the political and financial future of our country,” CCCI secretary Marios Tsiakkis said. “We fully expect the distinguished speakers at the symposium to illuminate many of the issues facing us at present,” he added. Apart from the Cyprus political elite, it is also expected to feature government officials from Israel and Greece, as well as over 25 speakers from public and private companies and organisations, academics and professionals from the energy sector.
