Energy talks gear up ahead of 3rd licensing round

President Nicos Anastasiades is to have meetings with representatives of energy giants in the coming week as the July 22, 2016 deadline for expressions of interest in the third licensing round for hydrocarbons exploration draws near.

According to government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides, in addition to these visits to the island, Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis is to travel to Britain and the US for discussions with companies that have expressed an interest in principle.

“There is increased interest and this is a clear vote of confidence in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic,” the spokesman said.

“Hopefully this interest will translate into concrete expressions of interest before July 22 so that we can complete the third licensing round.”

The acreage opened up for bidding in the third licensing round are Blocks 6, 8 and 10 in the island’s EEZ.
