EU-IMF workshop held on the economics of a federal Cyprus

The International Monetary Fund and the European Commission, in cooperation with the UN, have organised in Cyprus a two-day workshop on fiscal federalism, to contribute to the discussion on the financial system after a future Cyprus settlement.

“The International Monetary Fund and the European Commission, working closely with the UN, organised a workshop with economic experts from both sides on practical experiences for fiscal federalism in different European countries, with the goal of supporting the ongoing settlement process,” an email from the Office of the UN Spokesperson in Cyprus said in reply to a query from the Cyprus News Agency CNA.

UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide wrote on his personal twitter account that the workshop on fiscal federalism was “very useful, with top economic experts from Cyprus”, adding that there were “important inputs to the talks”.
