Fuel consumption falls in September

Petrol consumption in Cyprus fell by 25% in September 2020 compared to the same month last year, while petrol use dropped by 14%, the Cyprus Consumers Association said on Monday.

The percentages also take into account the purchase of fuel from the north.

Considering that last September there were no restrictions on movement and that the purchase of fuel from the north was at its lowest level, the association claims that the decrease in fuel consumption was mainly caused by the change of habits among Cypriots.

The announcement also explained that diesel was purchased in larger quantities compared to petrol as it is also the fuel used for the majority of commercial, industrial and agricultural vehicles.

Finally, association said the same percentages were recorded unofficially for the month of October, adding that studies are underway to understand whether people in Cyprus are also changing the way they circulate.
