Greece and Cyprus 'coordinate action' ahead of Eurozone summit

President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras have discussed the latest developments regarding the Greek debt crisis.

The two leaders spoke by phone "to coordinate action in view of the Eurozone summit,” Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides said.

"On our way to Brussels for another Eurozone Summit, hopefully the last one, and with a positive outcome", he added.

Tsipras is expected to present new proposals at the summit on his country's growing debt crisis.

According the BBC, the plan is said to include a demand for Greece's debt to be cut by up to 30%, after voters rejected the terms of an international bailout on Sunday.

On Monday Anastasiades said: "I want to believe that the European partners, the Governments, the institutional instruments, and I am sure that the Prime Minister also, will apply everything in their power, so that they can achieve and we can achieve, at the earliest possible, an agreement that will keep Greece in the EU, it will keep Greece in the euro, and it will create prospects that will safeguard the future and better conditions for Hellenism.”

He added that Cyprus will be supportive in the effort of Greece to achieve a restructuring of the terms, so its debt can be sustainable.
