Hotel prices down year-on-year in May 2015

Hotels in Cyprus for May 2015 compared to last year “are more affordable” with a fall in prices since last year in all areas except Nicosia and Larnaca, the latter of which were already among Europe’s cheapest, according to travel site Trivago.

Prices at hotels in Limassol, Paphos, Ayia Napa and Kakopetria were lower this month by between 0.9% and 10.1%.

The largest downward trend was observed in Peyia, over 34%, with a one-night stay costing on average €107 in May last year compared to €70 this year.

The average per night at a hotel in Nicosia rose from €100 last May to €108 this month. In Larnaca, the cost was €68 last year and €75 this year.  But in comparison Larnaca was cheaper than any other area.

The average per night in Limassol was €110, Ayia Napa €99 and Paphos €103, all lower than last May.

Compared to other European cities, Cypriot hotels were at least one third cheaper than around 15 others across the bloc this month.

Athens hotels jumped from €106 per night to €133 on average year-on-year. In Venice the average nightly rate climbed to €335 from €281 last May, and €238 the previous month. Milan hotel prices rose 51.6% compared to the previous year to €232 per night.

Increases of between 8% and 10% were observed in Rome, Paris, Vienna, London and Amsterdam.
