Interest in Limassol port

Large shipping organisations have expressed interest in the commercial activities of Limassol Port, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Marios Demetriades said recently.

Speaking after a meeting of the House Finance Committee, which discussed the Ports Authority’s supplementary budget, Demetriades said that there had been extremely satisfactory response to the process finding an investor for the commercial activities of Limassol port.

The public tender opened on June 18 and will close on July 17, 2015. “We will be ready to announce the results soon, but the indications are very positive,” he added.

Asked if firms like shipping giant China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO) have shown any interest in the port, Demetriades said that there had been interest “from organisations similar in size to COSCO”.
