Jan-Mar 2016 trade deficit up 14.4% year-on-year

The January-March 2016 trade deficit reached €730.6 million, an increase of €92.2 million or 14.4% compared to the same period in 2015.

According to initial estimates by CyStat, total exports during the first quarter of 2016 reached €369.5 million compared to €526.6 million during the first quarter of 2015, an increase of €156 million or 29.7%.

Total imports for the period of January-March 2016 reached €1.1 billion, compared to €1.16 billion during the same quarter last year, a decrease of 5.5%.

In March 2016, total imports/arrivals reached €407.5 million, or which €295.1 million were due to arrivals from other EU member states, and €112.4 million imports from third countries.

On the other hand, total exports reached €142.6 million of which €61.9 million were exports to other EU member states, while €80.7 million were exports to third countries.

The trade deficit in March reached €264.9 million compared to €241.4 million in February, a decrease of €5 million or 1.87% compared to March 2015.
