Noble Corp. clinches $179m Middle East rig deals

Offshore driller Noble Corporation (also active in Cyprus' waters)has signed up three of its rigs for work in the Middle East, inking a pair of contract extensions and a fresh deal for a previously idle unit worth $179 mln.

The rigs David Tinsley and Alan Hay have secured a two-year extension of their contracts from late December 2015 to late December 2017 at a daily rate of $85,000 each, while the Mick O’Bryen has been contracted from March or August 2016. All three are for work in the United Arab Emirates, but without specifying the client.

The latter has been secured for a 400-day contract at a day rate of $150,000 and Noble has the option to substitute it with another rig with similar design by giving notice to the client in the fourth quarter of this year.

Noble currently operates 32 rigs of three types – semi-submersible, jack-up and drillship. Three other rigs are headed for retirement.

Since it was spun-off by parent Noble Energy (NYSE: NBL) in 1985, Noble Corporation is now a S&P 500 company.

Noble Energy is the 70% operator of the exploration and exploitation license in Block 12 of the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone, together with Israel’s Delek Drilling and Avner Oil Exploration. They are also partners in the adjacent Leviathan and Tamar gas fields of the Israeli EEZ.

During its initial exploration work in the Block 12 ‘Aphrodite’ license, Noble Energy employed the Noble Corp. rig Homer Ferrington.
