President Anastasiades to address NYbusiness forum

President Nicos Anastasiades will be the keynote speaker at the Capital Link’s ‘Invest in Cyprus’ Forum in New York next week.

The event is taking place at The Metropolitan Club from March 22 and, according to an organiser, will showcase the developments and reforms in the Cypriot economy and the Cypriot government’s plans for the economy and investments.

It will also feature political and business leaders and decision makers from the public and private sectors, including three Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades, Minister of Commerce, Industry, Tourism and Energy Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, and Minister of Transport Communications and Works Marios Demetriades, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Jonathan Cohen, the CEOs of major Cypriot organisations, and senior executives of US and international companies active in the region.

The forum aims to raise awareness of Cyprus as an investment and business destination among the US investment, financial and business communities.

It will showcase the increasing importance of Cyprus as a regional maritime, logistics, energy and operational hub and highlight investment and business opportunities in these areas as well as in financial services, IT and tourism.

“Cyprus can be of significant value to companies which are using the United Kingdom as a gateway to the European Union and will thus be affected by Brexit,” the press release adds.

It also says that “strategically located as the gateway to the European Union, the Middle East, North Africa and the Black Sea, Cyprus is a full member of the European Union with an open market economy and skilled workforce mainly specialising in the financial and service sectors.

It offers political stability, an efficient legal system, a competitive tax regime and a restructured and growth oriented economy.

The banking system has been recapitalised and is governed by practices aligned with the EU legislation”.

The President of Capital Link Nicolas Bornozis has also said he is particularly proud to be hosting this forum on Cyprus with a view to enhance the country’s profile, especially to representatives of American companies, financial institutions and members of the business community, highlighting Cyprus’ advantages as an investment and business destination.

In the framework of ‘Capital Link Invest in Cyprus Forum,’ managing director of Safe Bulkers, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Polys Hadjioannou, is hosting a special event at the Stock Exchange to honour Cyprus.

Hadjioannou, accompanied by Anastasiades, his Ministers and other officials, will ring the bell to mark the end of trading on the Stock Exchange on Tuesday, March 21.
