According to media reports, an architectural firm in Larnaca – representing the Russian consortium – has already approached the Larnaca Municipality to inquire about permits and planning permission. Comments attributed to Andreas Karakatsanis, who is the Chief Engineer and Director of Technical Services at the Municipality of Larnaca, claim that the Russian investors are interested in building a 25-storey hotel that would overlook the promenade but will need to seek their planning permission elsewhere.
“The Larnaca Municipality has the authority to grant permits for buildings wishing to erect structures that are up to nine floors,” commented Karakatsanis. “The Town Planning Department can grant permission for buildings that are around 14 to 15 floors. Anything more than that has to be green-lighted by the Land Registry Department and the National Council.”
It is believed that the Russian investors have already drafted up proposals to purchase the necessary land and properties for their ambitious project although no further steps will be taken until they are granted the necessary permits.
Should they get the go-ahead from the state, then they will be set to get construction underway sometime in 2016.
