The Omnibus Simplification Package, introduced by the European Commission in February 2025, aims to ease sustainability compliance burdens on EU businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), by simplifying key legislative frameworks such as the CSRD, CSDDD, EU Taxonomy, CBAM, and InvestEU.
The proposals include reducing administrative costs by up to 35% for SMEs, narrowing mandatory reporting scopes, postponing deadlines, and offering lighter auditing requirements. While some critics argue that this could weaken EU’s environmental objectives, the reforms seek to strike a balance between maintaining sustainability standards and enhancing competitiveness, innovation, and investment within the EU.
