Trade deficit reaches €224.2mn in January 2016

The trade deficit was €224.2mn in January 2016 compared to €128.3mn in the corresponding month of 2015, according to the new monthly electronic report 'Intra-Extra E.U Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)' for January 2016 published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

The main developments in Cyprus foreign trade were:

(a) Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) in January 2016 amounted to €335.4mn as compared to €388.6mn in January 2015.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States) in January 2016 were €111.2mn compared to €260.3mn in January 2015. The trade deficit was €224.2mn in January 2016 compared to €128.3mn in the corresponding month of 2015.

(b) Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were €61.5mn whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were €49.7mn in January 2016.

On the basis of preliminary estimates for Foreign Trade of Cyprus in February 2016, total imports / arrivals were €355.6mn, of which €260.7mn were arrivals from other Member States of E.U. and €94.9mn imports from Third Countries.

Total exports/dispatches were €115.6mn of which €53.3mn were dispatches to other MemberStates of E.U. and €62.3mn exports to Third Countries.
