Master’s in simulation and data science at Cyprus Institute

The Cyprus Institute’s master’s programme in simulation and data science is accepting applications for the fall 2019 from graduates or professionals with a strong background in mathematics, computer science, natural science or engineering.

The programme provides training that combines simulation with the emerging field of data science. Simulation has become an indispensable part of research and development in numerous diverse areas based on the rapid evolvement of computer technologies. Advanced computing is also becoming essential in order to analyse the huge amount of data collected in almost all disciplines, either from simulations or from observations and instruments. Environmental, biological and physical sciences, financial economics, and the humanities are producing an unprecedented amount of data that needs to be analysed and visualised. Through modelling and simulation, machine and deep learning approaches, students will learn to use modern computers to gain new insights in a diverse area of applications.

Programme graduates can pursue a career as computational and data scientists in physical sciences, life sciences, environmental sciences, health, medicine, digital humanities and market modelling. They can also continue their studies at the PhD level either in Cyprus or abroad. In particular, graduates of the programme can be admitted to the PhD in computational sciences of the Cyprus Institute.

The duration of the programme is one year (90 ECTS). The curriculum includes courses in data science and statistics, machine learning and its applications, visualisation and advanced data structures and simulation approaches.

For the academic year 2019-2020 the Cyprus Institute is offering scholarships to students accepted to the programme based on merit. To apply, visit www.cyi.ac.cy, or contact the office of graduate studies at office.school@cyi.ac.cy or call 22-208614. The application deadline is March 1 and the late application deadline is June 1. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.

The programme is accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA) and is in line with the Bologna Process Second Cycle Degree Guidelines.
