Increase in registrations of Cyprus companies

According to the new statistical data published on the website of the Department of Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver, there has been an increase in the number of applications for the registration of a new company in Cyprus for the 4th consecutive year.

Based on the data, there has been a rise of 0,93% in the applications for registration of a new company in Cyprus reaching 13.672 compared to 13.645 in 2016, 11.270 in 2015, 11.169 in 2014 and 10.927 in 2013.

Furthermore, the total number of registered companies in Cyprus has also experienced a rise in 2017 as their number rose to 217.893, compared to 208.493 in 2016, recording an increase of 4.51%.

Moreover, foreign companies’ registrations rose to 87 in 2017, compared to 62 in 2016 marking the data at the highest level since 2013.

The data also indicates that the total number of companies that were liquidated by a court order reached 92 in 2017 whereas the number of voluntary liquidations amounted to 2.497 in 2017, a historically high number.

With regards to statistical data concerning intellectual property, the number of applications for registering trademarks in Cyprus reached 1.492 on 2017 compared to 1.364 in 2016 and 916 in 2015.
